Graduate Certificate in Project Management

The Graduate Certificate in Project Management for Human Services Professionals, offered in a completely online format, is designed for professionals from the human service sector who have a bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline. Content is focused on project management skills applicable for all disciplines and any human services environment.

By completing this certificate, you will be equipped to effectively plan, monitor and execute projects. You will gain practical project management skills you can immediately put into practice in your everyday work. Earning this certificate will help you successfully manage complex projects while assessing the strengths of others, balancing needs of various stakeholders, and completing projects on time and on budget. These skills and experiences will help you deliver the best possible product and emphasize your versatility as an employee.

Certificate Goals

  • Prepare students to effectively plan, monitor and execute projects.
  • Provide students practical experiences that will directly impact their current work.
  • Enable students to manage complex projects that are completed on time and on budget
  • Demonstrate to students the importance of assessing the eligible contributions of other team members and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders as part of the project management process.
  • Enhance students' versatility as employees.

Certificate requirements:
Three courses (9 credit hours) which must be taken in sequential order:

Project Management in Human Services I: Executing Effective Projects (GERO 587) This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective project execution. Students will work on project scenarios in which they will learn strategies that will ensure quality project outcomes through optimizing project scope, managing costs, maximizing available resources and facilitating effective communication. Course content will be delivered in an entirely online format and will include readings, discussion and case studies designed to foster practical application of course content. (3 credit hours.
Offered Winter 2012 and every subsequent Fall)
 
Project Management in Human Services II: Monitoring Project Progress (GERO 588) This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective project monitoring. Students will work on project scenarios in which they will learn strategies that will ensure quality project outcomes through optimizing project scope, managing costs, maximizing available resources and facilitating effective communication. Course content will be delivered in an entirely online format and will include readings, discussion and case studies designed to foster practical application of course content. Pre-requisite: GERO 587. (3 credit hours. Offered Summer 2012 and every subsequent Winter)
 
Project Management in Human Services III: Initiation and Planning (GERO 589) This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective project initiation and planning. Students will work on project scenarios in which they will learn strategies that will ensure quality project outcomes through optimizing project scope, managing costs, maximizing available resources and facilitating effective communication. Course content will be delivered in an entirely online format and will include readings, discussion and assignments designed to foster practical application of course content. Pre-requisites: GERO 587 and GERO 588. (3 credit hours. Offered Fall 2012 and every subsequent Summer)
